Basak Tanulku

Independent scholar based in Istanbul, Turkey, with a PhD degree in Sociology, Lancaster University, UK.

Tanulku works on housing, gated communities, urban transformation and urban vacancy, and alternative spaces (guerrilla gardens, collectives, commons and squats). Tanulku also works on the Lake District (and Cumbria), particularly the tensions between its natural and cultural heritage, its haunted sites and legends, and challenges emerging as a result of conflicts between local industries, commercialisation and environmental change.
