Recording of ‘Landscape Futures in the Twenty-First Century: Landscape Leaders in an Intergenerational Dialogue’

LANDSCAPE FUTURES IN THE TWENTY-FIRST CENTURY by Charlotte Mitchell

On 5th December 2024, the Landscape Research Group, in collaboration with the Bartlett School of Architecture’s MA/MLA Landscape Architecture programme, hosted Landscape Futures in the Twenty-First Century: Landscape Leaders in an Intergenerational Dialogue. This hybrid event delved into the profound impacts of global crises—climate change, economic challenges, and social transformations—on landscapes worldwide.

The panel, expertly moderated by LRG Vice Chair Tim Waterman on behalf of LRG Chair Professor Theano S. Terkenli, addressed three critical questions:

  • How do you anticipate and/or envision the future of landscape and landscape research in our era of multiple crises?
  • What role could the Landscape Research Group (LRG) play in addressing these challenges?
  • What strategies or actions do you recommend to respond to and mitigate these challenges while embracing emerging opportunities?

The video above features our four distinguished panellists – Professor Marc Antrop, Dr Margherita Cisani, Dr Amy Strecker, and Professor Tim Ingold -representing multiple generations and academic disciplines. Together, they explored our evolving relationships with landscapes and our roles in addressing pressing issues such as food security, cultural heritage, and energy production.
